Encompassing the band's first three years, Subtle Bodies compiles a selection of tracks from the first two celebrated cassette EPs along with previously unreleased material onto milky clear vinyl. Each song is connected by themes of loss, mortality and rebirth, inspired primarily by the death of Labrador's stepfather. During this painful period, collaborator Madden supplied her with a copy of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, which would become paramount to her grieving process and, consequentially, creative process.
A bewitching fusion of shoegaze and industrial. This album leans more towards the shoegaze side but for me Chasms are at their best when the industrial flavor seeps to the forefront, such as on the killer track Come To Harm and the sublime Intimacy. Dustfan
